What is tethering & how does it work?

What is tethering? Tethering is a software feature on Android and iOS that allows you to share or bridge your smartphone’s cellular connection with other devices, either via a cable or wirelessly. The latter involves using your smartphone’s Wi-Fi circuitry to broadcast a signal that can be picked up by other devices in its vicinity.

Is tether a Realcoin?

Tether was launched as RealCoin in July 2014 and was rebranded as Tether in November 2014. Originally based on the Bitcoin blockchain, Tether now supports Bitcoin's Omni and Liquid protocols as well as the Ethereum, TRON, EOS, Algorand, Solana, and Bitcoin Cash (SLP) blockchains. 2

Is tether backed by a'reserve'?

In February 2019, this text changed to: “Every tether is always 100% backed by our reserves, which include traditional currency and cash equivalents and, from time to time, may include other assets and receivables from loans made by Tether to third parties, which may include affiliated entities (collectively, ‘reserves’).”

What if tether went to zero?

“Tether, being the largest, would jeopardize all but the most transparent of stablecoins,” Mizrach says. Gemini would likely benefit from a failure of Tether, though, and USDC could, too. “If Tether went to zero, I’m sure there would be panic in the markets.” Tether is often used as a parking place for high-frequency traders, Mizrach says.
